Coronavirus and FOPP

We will update this page as necessary.

Latest (Tuesday 24th March):

As mentioned in our announcement of Thursday 19th March, all FOPP volunteering activities are suspended until further notice.

Today, the prison have confirmed that all social visits are suspended until further notice.  Further information specific to HMP Peterborough is given on their website.  Government guidance regarding prison visits can be found here.

In common with many similar organisations and being mindful of our duty of care to our volunteers and staff, we have reluctantly decided to suspend all volunteering activities in the prison after Saturday 21st March until further notice.  We feel this will also help to minimise the risk of the virus getting into the prison.

The FOPP Tea Bar will be closed during this time and our staff will be working from home so far as is possible.  Existing volunteers will receive updates by email, and we will keep the Members Area of the website up to date with the latest information as it becomes available.

We look forward to resuming our normal activities again as soon as possible.  In the meantime, we urge everyone to look after themselves and their loved ones, and to stay safe.

In view of recent advice to avoid social gatherings as far as possible, we have reluctantly decided to postpone the Volunteers’ meeting that was scheduled for 23rd April.  We hope to rearrange it once the immediate risk from the coronavirus emergency has passed.

  • As a precaution, we have decided to postpone the H&S prison tour that had been scheduled for Thursday 19th March.
  • A confidential email has been sent to all volunteers today (Tuesday 17th March) giving additional important information.
  • An email has been sent to all volunteers giving an emergency contact phone number if our Volunteer Coordinator is unable to be at work in the office as usual.
