I became a volunteer with FOPP a few months after retiring from a career in Town and Country Planning. I volunteered for several years in Education (ESOL then Substance Abuse and Thinking and Reasoning Skills) and latterly helping with Family Days. I welcome any chance to get a fuller appreciation of the wider work of HMP Peterborough. I have a general interest in how prisons work and their role in the rehabilitation of offenders and protection of the public. In this I draw on 14 months as a volunteer in a different role at HMP Stocken.
In the past I helped set up and run two housing projects for single people with particular needs. I was a founder member of what became known as Peterborough Soup Kitchen.
Current interests include archaeology, sailing, natural history in general and bird watching in particular. I am a member of the Parochial Church Council of St Botolph’s (Anglican) Church and a Life Member of the Thames Sailing Barge Trust, my trade union Prospect and the Royal Town Planning Institute.
